Wilson Tennis - Australian Open

Background

Amer Sports is a sporting goods company with internationally recognized brands including Salomon, Wilson, Atomic, Arc’teryx, Mavic, Suunto and Precor.

The Challenge

With the 100-year anniversary of the Wilson brand upon them and the Australian (Tennis) Open coming up, Amer Sports were looking for some display units to showcase vintage examples of their racquets and other tennis products.  Key requirements that were identified early on were that the display solution needed to: (a) be cost effective, (b) have a high visual impact, (c) be easy to set up, (d) simple to re-brand, and (e) had to look great.  They would be set up on permanent display at Amer Sports' head office after the event, so we considered this also.   

The Solution(s)

To satisfy the requirements both for easy assembly and cost effectiveness, we produced portable plinths for the bases of our units.  To keep costs down we used standard sizes for the three smaller ones and a larger custom size for the centrepiece unit. 

The bases of our portable plinths are made from extruded polypropylene, which is ideally suited to these units as it is light weight but strong - easily supporting 70 kilograms-plus.  The tops of the units are made from timber and finished in MDF - in this case black.  To keep our client's rare vintage products secure and to show them off to the maximum extent possible, we fabricated showcase tops for the display units from clear acrylic.  Screw-holes were added to allow the showcases to be secured to the display unit tops.

As the display units would need to be re-branded at a later date, we produced semi-rigid, removable graphic wraps for the bases.  

The Result

The display units were delivered on time, on budget and met all of the requirements.  Feedback was very positive, with the client saying "...they are very easy to setup!! They also look great...
